Are You Struggling But Not Sure How To Ask For Help?

You don't have to be in crisis to come to therapy. A lot of people who reach out to us aren't falling apart , they're just tired. Tired of feeling anxious all the time, tired of going through the motions, tired of carrying something heavy without anyone to help them carry it.
Maybe you've been telling yourself you'll deal with it later, or that other people have it worse, or that you should be able to figure this out on your own. But later keeps not coming, and things aren't getting better on their own.
Whatever brought you here, you're in the right place.

Something Feels Off And It Has For A While

Most people who come to individual therapy at Serenity aren't coming in with a neat diagnosis or a clear problem statement. They're coming in with a feeling they can't shake, a pattern they can't break, or a situation they don't know how to get through.

Here's what we hear most often:

We also welcome BIPOC women who are looking for a therapist who understands the specific pressures that come with navigating identity, community expectations, and mental health in spaces that weren't always built with you in mind.

You've Been Trying To Push Through On Your Own

One of the most common things people say when they first come in is some version of "I don't even know if my problems are bad enough for therapy." They are. You don't need to have a diagnosable condition or a major life event to deserve support.

People are under more pressure than ever to be high performers at work, present parents, physically fit, socially connected, and financially stable. That's a lot to carry. And most people are carrying it without much support, because asking for help can feel like admitting you can't cope.

The truth is that reaching out is one of the harder things to do. If you're reading this, you've already done something most people won't.

What To Expect In Individual Therapy Sessions

Your first session is mostly about getting to know each other. Your therapist will want to understand what's bringing you in, what your life looks like right now, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. You don't need to have all the answers. You just need to show up.

From there, sessions are 50 minutes, typically weekly, though the frequency can be adjusted based on what works for you. Your therapist will tailor the approach to what you're dealing with. There's no one-size-fits-all process here.

Over time, therapy tends to move through a few natural phases. Early on it's about understanding what's going on and building trust with your therapist. Then you move into the deeper work — understanding patterns, processing difficult experiences, building new ways of thinking and responding. Eventually, as things shift, sessions might become less frequent as you build confidence in managing on your own.
